Tuesday, July 05, 2016 Source: Thesun.co.ukICELAND are still in dream world after thousands of screaming fans welcomed their Euro 2016 heroes back home.
Amazing scenes greeted England‘s last-16 conquerors – later KO'd 5-2 by France – when they arrived in Reykjavik.
Some 30,000 supporters turned out to welcome their stars back.
Players were paraded through the streets and performed the now-famous ‘Viking chant' after arguably the greatest sporting fortnight in their country's history.
Striker Kolbeinn Sigthorsson, who scored a consolation goal against France on Sunday, said he was happy to be home.
He beamed: "It was a dream come true to get that support.
"We experienced something simply wonderful, it was a dream come true and we are proud to have brought such cheer to our country."
Prime Minister Sigurdur Ingi Johannsson added: "Fairy tales still exist! It's rare – if indeed this has ever happened – to unite us Icelanders as you did on the football pitch.
"You are a national treasure!"
Iceland stunned pundits by even reaching the Euros, beating Holland twice in qualifying.
They then finished second and unbeaten in Group F, drawing with Portugal and Hungary before beating Austria 2-1.
Next up was their greatest ever achievement in football and arguably England's worst ever – a 2-1 comeback victory that led to Three Lions' boss Roy Hodgson resigning.
