Portugal and Croatia met in the knockout round of the EURO 2016.

After almost 2 hours' uneventful football, there seems to be no goals in the open play. Then, all of a sudden Cristiano Ronaldo's only shot was denied by goalkeeper Danijel Subasic. Ricardo Quaresma headed the rebound in from close range to help Portugal to beat Croatia 1-0 and to see off them.

The Vatreni produced an unbeaten run in Group D. They sealed top spot, leaving Spain to sit in the second place.  It was reminiscent of 2002 FIFA World Cup where they finished third.

Croatia Captain Darijo Srna squatted on the ground after the final whistle, putting his hands to his tearful face. What a croat who loves his homeland!

The night was for Portugal, though. Croatia's spirit deserved respect. "The iron regiment" have put up stellar performance in this edition, which will stay in our mind for years.

Their tear is believed to be left in the field.
