ENGLAND ROLE: Steven Gerrard
The Sun report the former Three Lions captain is highly regarded and will be offered a job with young players as he continues to take his UEFA badges.
Gerrard will also be consulted by FA chief executive Martin Glenn on who he thinks should succeed Roy Hodgson as England manager.
The former Liverpool and Fulham boss stepped down after the country’s disastrous 2-1 loss to Iceland in the last 16 of Euro 2016 earlier this week.
Senior England players will also be asked their opinions on who the new manager should be.
Captain Wayne Rooney, goalkeeper Joe Hart, Gary Cahill and James Milner are all expected to have an input into the final decision.
Gerrard is due back from America in November after the MLS season ends – but the reports claim it could be earlier as his family are struggling to adapt to life in the United States.
He is expected to take up a role with Liverpool’s Under-21 side and he could also take the first step on the way to being involved with England’s senior side by coaching at St George’s Park.
And the new Three Lions manager is expected to be offered a pay-as-you-win contract.
Glenn said: “To start off it has to be results orientated. Roy’s got a fortune but it’s half the fortune that Fabio got.
“So, to get a really good person and they are earning £4m in a club, you have to be in that zone. You’ve got to pay a market attractive rate but no-one wants to be naive.”
