Czech Republic vs Turkey - Cech confident Czech can overcome loss of Rosicky

Goalkeeper Petr Cech is confident the Czech Republic players can produce a collective response to overcome the loss of captain Tomas Rosicky and reach the knockout stages of Euro 2016.

The 35-year-old former Arsenal midfielder suffered the muscle problem during the closing stages of the 2-2 draw against Croatia in St Etienne on Friday, with scans confirming he would be out for between three and six weeks.

Rosicky has remained with the squad in France as the Czechs prepare for a crucial final Group D match with Turkey in Lens, where victory would almost certainly see them qualify for the last 16, with Croatia set to play leaders Spain in Bordeaux.

Cech, who was with Rosicky at Arsenal last season, believes the squad can come together to get the required result.

"Obviously Tomas is a big loss, he is one of our key players, but the other players will have to step up," Cech said at a press conference.

"Our biggest strength is the team play, we don't have big stars, but our togetherness and spirit is our biggest strength, so as a team we will have to make up for his loss and now other players will have a chance to show they can do it."

After losing to Spain in their opening match, Pavel Vrba's men battled back from 2-0 down against Croatia to secure a dramatic draw in a match overshadowed by crowd trouble.

Cech said: "If we want to qualify and not wait for other teams (results), then we have to win.

"The most important thing will be how we play. They will try to make it difficult for us, but we have to prepare ourselves for the best possible team performance."

Turkey have lost both of their group matches so far, but could yet put themselves into the shake-up for qualification as one of the four best third-placed teams.

The countries were in the same qualification group, the Czechs coming top and the Turks third ahead of the Dutch.

Turkey famously won their encounter at Euro 2008, having been 2-0 down with only 15 minutes to go.

Cech, though, believes more recent games will be in the memory of the players when they face off again at Stade Bollaert-Delelis.

"It has been eight years. This will mostly be revenge for the match against them in Prague in the qualifiers when we lost," the 34-year-old goalkeeper said.

Turkey head coach Fatih Terim believes his players can pick themselves up to produce a much improved display.

He said at a press conference: "There has to be some differences in the way we play.

"If we make a draw, both teams will be out, if they win, they can qualify, if we do, then we will depend on other results, so it will be like a chess game."

Terim believes if Turkey were able to progress, it would be some achievement against the odds.

"I am always realistic in the football business," said the former AC Milan and Galatasaray coach.

"The biggest achievement would be to qualify from this group of death, so tomorrow, we will see."
