England starlet Marcus Rashford: I'm living the dream
Saturday, June 11, 2016 Source: Dailystar.co.ukThe teenage sensation has gone from a nobody to England striker in just a few months to find himself at Euro 2016 with Roy Hodgson's squad.
Rashford, 18, only made his Manchester United debut in February - but has never looked back.
He scored on his debut en-route to plundering eight goals in his first 17 appearances for United to earn a shock England call-up.
Rashford then hit the back of the net on his Three Lions debut against Australia at the Stadium of Light to leave Hodgson with no choice but to include him in his 23-man squad for France.
Rashford is now rubbing shoulders with the finest players in the country and admits the whirlwind has been hard to take in.
In his first interview since bursting into the scene, Rashford said: "When I first went into the changing room and saw all of the players' names on the back of their shirts, it doesn't seem real.
"I remember going home after and speaking to my brother about it, and he agreed with me - he didn't think it was real either. That's what it's like until you get used to it."
Rashford admits back in February he was just focusing on establishing himself in United's U21 side.
But injuries forced Louis van Gaal to draft him into the first team and Rashford took his chance with both hands.
He added: "Back then I was actually trying to work my way into the 21s side and all of a sudden I appeared in the first team - you have to be ready when your chance comes.
"To be honest, I wasn't really thinking about the England set-up as much because obviously at United there was a lot of games coming thick and fast.
"All of my focus was on those games. At the end of the season you hear talk and stuff, but to be here now is just amazing.
"To be fair, I tried not to think about it too much because that's probably where the pressure and stuff starts to get to people's heads and affect their performance.
"For me, I was just concentrating on playing for England how I'd been playing (at United) and all of a sudden the goal came. It's a good way to start.
"It's amazing. When I was a kid I used to be doing those things myself (flag waving ahead of the tournament), so for it to be in my hands to go out and help the country is an amazing feeling."
