England's provisional Euro 2016 squad took part in an open training session at St George's Park on Wednesday evening but Gary Cahill sat out as a precaution.

The Chelsea defender picked up a minor knock at the weekend and was the one absentee from training, with the exception of the players who still have club commitments.

Nick Collins of Sky Sports News HQ reported: "There were 26 names in that provisional squad which Roy Hodgson announced on Monday, eight of which we knew wouldn't be here - three from Manchester United, because of the FA Cup final, and five missing from Liverpool because of the Europa League final.

"And it is in fact down to 17 because Gary Cahill, the Chelsea defender and the vice-captain, has got a slight knock from the weekend game with Leicester and, as a precaution, he has decided not to train."

England's preparations for Euro 2016 are stepping up a gear and their first warm-up match will be on Sunday against Turkey.

Assessing Hodgson's attacking options for that match, Collins added: "Three of the five strikers won't be available but the two he does have are not bad.

Jack Wilshere has returned to fitness in time to stake a claim for a place in the squad for France

"One is Tottenham's Harry Kane, the winner of the Golden Boot, who has been really important for England since breaking into the side, and who will be seen as the man who can lead the line at Euro 2016.

"And also Jamie Vardy of Leicester, who finished just a goal behind Kane and has a Premier League winner's medal.

"He is another player who has made the step up to international football, scoring in both the last two friendlies."

Jamie Vardy (left) is likely to feature against Turkey this weekend

"Does Roy Hodgson play them together as a two, use them in a three, or maybe use Vardy as an impact sub? That is something we will try to find out in the coming days.

"In terms of an attacking unit, this is a really exciting England set-up."
