BATTLE: Vincent Kompany's season has been ravaged by injuries

The Manchester City ace has been left devastated after his injury curse struck again in the Bernabeu.

Kompany collapsed in a heap during the early stages of City’s Champions League semi-final defeat to Real Madrid.

He hobbled off clutching his groin and could be seen limping badly through Manchester airport when he returned home with Manuel Pellegrini’s squad during the early hours of yesterday.

He will spend the next 48 hours undergoing tests but has suffered a groin tear that will sideline him for up to six weeks.

Belgium begin their campaign on June 13 against Italy in Lyon and Kompany will be desperate to make it.

But he knows he cannot declare himself fit unless he is 100 per cent sure he is right to face the Italians.

Missing the start of the tournament would be a huge blow for Kompany, who at 30 knows he is running out of time to help Belgium win a major finals.

He has missed large chunks of the Premier League campaign with a succession of calf problems and has suffered a staggering 33 different injuries since joining City eight years ago.

The constant concerns about his long-term fitness have become a major problem for incoming boss Pep Guardiola, who will have to make a decision on whether he can still trust the centre-back to be available on a regular basis.

Guardiola’s fear now is that Kompany could well break down again in France and leave him struggling to be fit for the start of next season.
