Germany lay down a marker

Germany bounced back from their loss to England with a bang, thrashing Italy 4-1 courtesy of goals from Toni Kroos (with another fine finish from outside the box), Mario Gotze, Mesut Ozil and Jonas Hector.

The match saw the world champions make a statement suggesting that they will be a fearsome proposition at the upcoming European Championship after all. Although Stephan El Shaarawy pulled one back with a deflected effort for the Italians, it was far too little too late for Antonio Conte's men, who were comprehensively outgunned.

Netherlands victorious at Wembley

Janssen bursts England's bubble

Three days after their thrilling comeback win over Germany, England crashed back down to earth by losing 2-1 at home to the Netherlands.

Leicester City hotshot Jamie Vardy, scorer of a wonderful goal in Berlin at the weekend, gave the Three Lions the lead in the first half. However, AZ striker Vincent Janssen made it 1-1 from the penalty spot shortly after half-time after Danny Rose had handled and then set up Luciano Narsingh with a quarter of an hour to go to complete the comeback for the 'Oranje'.

Taking the scalp of a buoyant England side will provide the Dutch with a rare reason to celebrate in recent times, after they failed to qualify for the Euros.
