UEFA bans Periscope at Euros

UEFA does not want any social interruptions and, with that in mind, it held several recent meetings in Paris with the teams taking part in this summer's European Championship.

There, it insisted on the need to control how players use social media during the competition, or at least inside the stadiums where games are being played.

In particular, Europe's governing body has banned players from streaming real-time video or, in other words, using the popular app 'Periscope', which has taken centre stage in the footballing world recently thanks to Gerard Pique's 'shows'.

UEFA executives were initially concerned about players possibly using social media for commercial gain and they do not want anyone doing business at the competition except the tournament sponsors themselves.
