Giroud: "We'll respect Germany"
2016-07-05 01:08:00 from:SNTVFrance striker Olivier Giroud spoke on Tuesday (4th July) the day after helping his side advance to the semi-final of Euro 2016 with two goals in the 5-2 win over Iceland
SOUNDBITE: (French) Olivier Giroud, France striker:
"(to answer the) first question...the first half was very positive because we had a habit of not starting matches. I mean in a rhythm which didn't suit us, which didn't suit the coach, so it's true we have succeeded to fix it by being more concentrated, diligent, aggressive and effective. We started this match better."
SOUNDBITE: (French) Olivier Giroud, France striker:
"If we want to go to the end, we must win against Germany, so yes, we have to have this team on our victory table. Now I would like to disagree because for me the difference of level, mainly in Europe has considerably been reduced for the last few years. This Euro is the Euros of "small team" and they've shown heart, mental qualities, and determination, and players with qualities who play in Europe, nothing has been scripted. Who would have said Wales will be in semi final and Iceland in the quarter-finals? And they beat England. There have been surprises and we are proud to have won against these teams. Who would have said we would score five against Iceland before this match yesterday. We did a good job, we can be happy with what we did. We respected them and we will respect the Germans of course because they are world champions but as you said we have to win (this big chunk) to go to the end."
