France head coach Didier Deschamps described semi-final opponents Germany as "the best side in Europe" and insisted his side won't just settle for a place in the last four at Euro 2016 following their 5-2 quarter-final victory over Iceland on Sunday.

SOUNDBITE: (French) Didier Deschamps, France head coach (Q: This is the first time that France are back in a semi-final since Euro 2000, what does it mean to you to take France this far?)

"First and foremost, as I said, I am very pleased for the players because they did what they needed to, to make it into the last four and as I said, for the fans too who have really given us so much support over the last weeks and indeed months. I cannot remember what it was like in Euro 2000, but we are hosting the tournament this time around, so that has it's own impact. We have a big match on Thursday, we are first and foremost going to enjoy and savour this victory because time does move very quickly, although it has been a long week. We have had seven days between our last two games."

SOUNDBITE: (French) Didier Deschamps, France head coach (Q: You will be playing against a side that doesn't sit back, will that suit you?)

"It won't be the same balance of power because Germany have so much technical ability, from the goalkeeper right through to the defenders. They often tend to hog ball possession. It is all about adaptation, not necessarily only to their strengths, but also based on what we are able to produce too. Thus far we have met sides, apart from Switzerland who are a slightly better football side, most of the oppositions came out to defend. I know that won't be the case against Germany, the more we make them defend, the better it will be."
