The future looks good for Iceland - Lagerback
2016-07-04 19:50:00 from:SNTVLars Lagerback reflects on Iceland's 5-2 quarter-final defeat to France on Sunday and their exit from Euro 2016.
SOUNDBITE: (English) Lars Lagerback, Iceland joint coach
"If you look at the ages of the players in this squad then the future looks good, because most of them who played, and some of them who didn't play, can go on and play for many years, so for the national team looks really really good. So if the football association in Iceland and the clubs can take this in and hopefully use the income from this tournament into some football projects and develop young players, then I think the future is very good."
SOUNDBITE: (English) Lars Lagerback, Iceland joint coach (On the tournament being expanded to 24 teams ahead of Euro 2016)
"I was a little bit against going up to 24 teams, but I am starting to go in the other direction instead. When you look at international football as I see it more and more small countries have players playing in good leagues and you can always discuss if the tournament is too long, as the best players are playing so many matches in a long season. But if you look at it in a different way, the PR around this tournament is really good for football and if you look at Europe with different countries stepping out from different areas, so I think its good PR for football, it has developed Europe as a continent in football."
