Deschamps: France won't underestimate Iceland
2016-07-02 21:20:00 from:SNTVFrench manager Didier Deschamps will not underestimate Iceland this Sunday when the two sides meet in the quarter-finals of Euro 2016.
SOUNDBITE (French) Didier Deschamps, France coach (on Iceland's qualities):
"On their long throws, it's not just long throws, but they have a player who can throw these very flat balls and have these same scenarios in every match. They might have very few corners but often many throw ins. From 35 or 40 yards out it's the equivalent of having a set piece for them. We have taken measures to prevent this aspect of their play, but it's not just that. We mustn't simply suggest that Iceland are only about long throws. They have a number of attributes they've shown both within the team and also with individual players. They don't just hit the ball forward. They move the football quickly on the floor and they do have quality players."
SOUNDBITE (French) Didier Deschamps, France coach (on what atmosphere he expects from Iceland's fans):
"We're delighted to see the support we've had since the beginning of the competition, that's been backed up in every match we've seen. We'll have that atmosphere tomorrow, the players need that. But I've also seen the support Iceland have received, it's very significant as well. They make a lot of noise. The players and all the Icelandic staff are performing well and that brings a lot of feeling, a lot of passion. If they are able to make as much noise as they normally do, and our fans do too, they'll be a lot of noise and that's what we expect from a top level quarter-final at the Euros."
