Hodgson cagey on team selection
2016-06-20 06:15:00 from:SNTVEngland manager Roy Hodgson and Captain Wayne Rooney looked ahead on Sunday (19th June) to their final Euro 2016 group game against Slovakia.
SOUNDBITE (English) Roy Hodgson, England manager (on whether he thinks striker Harry Kane is feeling the effects of a long season):
"No I don't. I've spoken to Harry and he's been very good in training the last couple of days. I don't think he is suffering more from the season than any other player who has been playing on a regular basis. We have some players, of course, who haven't played on a regular basis, maybe through injury or other reasons, but no, there's no problem with him in that respect. And as for Jamie (Vardy) and Daniel (Sturridge), they did very well when they came on against Wales and I'm sure they'd like another chance too. The options are there. We've spoken at length on many occasions about the options available, especially in those front positions. Nothing changes and it's a decision that has to be made."
SOUNDBITE (English): Wayne Rooney, England captain:
"I think I've said before, we've got a very good, exciting squad. I think time will tell. I think we're not going to get judged on what happens in this tournament. I think the players have got a lot of years ahead of them and this tournament will help, but we're not here as a group of players for the experience, we're here to try and do well and go far, but I certainly think over the next few years the squad can grow into a better team, a more mature team, but at the moment we're trying to do as well as we can. We feel we've had a good start and we hope we can continue that and go into the later stages of the tournament."
