Euro 2016 : focus on France
2016-06-19 07:21:00 from:SNTVEuro 2016 hosts France prepared on Saturday (18th June) for a meeting with Switzerland in Lille - a game that will decide the winners of Group A.
France complete their fixtures in Euro 2016 Group A on Sunday in the knowledge that in avoiding defeat to Switzerland in Lille, Didier Deschamps' side will top the final Group A standings ..
The tournament hosts, who won the first of their two Euro titles on home soil in 1984, have already sealed their place in the round of 16 following wins over Romania and Albania.
But their preparations have been overshadowed by reports that Paul Pogba made an obscene gesture toward journalists during France's 2-0 win over Albania on Wednesday.
SOUNDBITE: (French) Didier Deschamps, France coach (on the gesture Paul Pogba made, reportedly to journalists, after the second goal in the 2-0 win over Albania):
"He has explained himself, yes. I believe him and I believe in his honestly as well. That's the most important thing. I'm not going to give you the news again."
(Inaudible question)
"I don't know. I don't know what he told you, but what's most important is what he told me."
France's winning goals in their two matches have come from Dimitri Payet, who has reproduced his club form at west Ham to impress for Les Bleus at Euro 2016.
SOUNDBITE: (French) Didier Deschamps, France coach (asked how Dimitri Payet has changed since joining West Ham United):
"What he's shown all season long with West Ham United is consistent performances. He's able to produce a lot more. He's always had this technical ability, right foot, left foot. He's also gained in confidence I think. He knows now that the top level is very demanding and he really is contributing a lot. But in the matches, that's where it's very important to come up with the goods. It might have happened before, it's happening now, but I'm not going to complain about that. Nor is the team."
While the hosts have already qualified for the last 16 stage, Deschamps will be keenfor his players to record a result against
Switzerland that will see them finish top of their group and potentially avoid one of the stronger nations in the next round.
