Northern Ireland earned their first ever win at a European Championship, and remained in the hunt for a place in the last 16, when they beat Ukraine 2-0 in Lyon on Thursday (16th June).

"Obviously it was a fantastic performance. First of all, it was a magnificent stadium to play in. I think when we came here last night and I said to the players 'look if they don't look forward to playing in a game like this, they're in the wrong industry.' And they certainly took that on board. I thought we were positive from the outset. Everyone was magnificent, obviously Gareth (McAuley) was exceptional in every aspect but we just needed that level of performance, that level of intensity and you know, we're alive and kicking in the competition now."

"It was only half an hour ago (laughter). Yes you know, obviously it has been a long time and we've talked about things, about leaving a legacy from this tournament and hopefully we can produce more players from Northern Ireland who can get the country to these major tournaments more often. It's a long time ago since the country (was in a major) and someone scored in a tournament but as I said, it's all about the lads around me for me and they're what makes football special and if I can chip in for a goal or a block or do my job, that's what I'm out there to do and it'll be a few years down the line probably when I'm finished up and looking back on it that it will be extra special. But for tonight, it's sinking in but it means that we're in the competition. Lots of people from when the draw was made didn't give us a chance of getting a point and this is what Northern Ireland is about. proving people wrong. Obviously we've got a massive game in Paris now (v Germany) to look forward to but we're in the group and we've got something to play for and that's the best thing that has come out of tonight."
