Russia call for England to receive similar punishment

A bus carrying Russian followers was detained near the French city of Nice on Tuesday (14th June) amid concerns over hooligan violence after Russian fans attacked English supporters last week at Euro 2016.

Earlier on Russian MP, Igor Lebedev, demanded that England receive the same punishment as Russia.

A bus with some 50 Russians has been blocked on its way to Lille.

Russians nationalists who were reportedly involved in the violence in Marseille on Saturday.

Around 100 police officers searched the bus looking for weapons and it's believed they could be deported.

Prefecture communications chief Ariane Parachini says police stopped the fans to see whether any hooligans were among them. An unspecified number have been taken to detention centres.

Earlier in the day Russian state deputy, Igor Lebedev spoke of the country's disappointment that England too weren't punished for their involvement in the clashes in Marseille.

"If fans of both teams took part in the unrest, they should both be punished. The Russian team was punished and we are now expecting UEFA to make a corresponding decision with regards to the English team."

Russian Embassy spokesman Sergei Parinov confirmed the arrest of a reported 29 Russians nationals on the bus.

Russia will play Slovakia in Lille on Wednesday, and England face Wales the next day in Lens, raising the prospect of more clashes.
