150 Russian hooligans stopped at borders - French authorities
2016-06-14 00:59:00 from:SNTVTen people will appear in a Marseille court on Monday (13th June) following violence in the French city during the European Championship.
SOUNDBITE (French) Brice Robin, Marseille prosecutor:
"Around 150 supporters of Russian nationality who are hooligans, who are used to and are training for that kind of behaviour, you know some of them arrived on plane at Marseille-Marignane airport and were stopped from entering national territory. Unfortunately, it seems that others came using other means of travel, and they prepared themselves for very fast and very violent interventions. As a consequence it is difficult to arrest them. I don't want to say they are professionals in violence but those are very well trained people."
SOUNDBITE (French) Brice Robin, Marseille prosecutor:
"For all those people (appearing in court) the principle offence is that they committed violence using a weapon. This violence was committed essentially against police forces - people in public authority positions - but also against other supporters, and all in relation with a sport event. My assistant prosecutor who will sit at the trial this afternoon has the job to request incarceration for those 10 people."
