'Eyes of the world' on Bale - Coleman

2016-06-11 20:54:00 from:SNTV

Wales - including Gareth Bale - prepared for their Euro 2016 Group B opener against Slovakia in Bordeaux on Friday (10th June). Boss Chris Coleman says that star man Bale will be the focus of most team’s attention, but believes the forward is used to the pressure.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Chris Coleman, Wales Head Coach (on Gareth Bale + Slovakia):

"I think we have grown used to that really. I think once you become the most expensive player in the world and you are playing for Real Madrid..he has won two Champions Leagues in the last three years then it is normal for the opposition to look at Gareth Bale and play him a lot of attention and they need to pay him a lot of attention. So we are used to it. he is used to it because luckily for us, if you have got a player that is playing where he plays every week - with all due respect - going into this tournament - he is used to all the spotlight, he is used to having the eyes of the world on him and everything he does - on and off the pitch. He is looking forward to this and so are we. I expect Slovakia to pay him attention and everybody we play against to pay him attention. It is normal, its football and as the gentle,an said earlier we look at Slovakia and (Marik) Hamsik and he is a good player and we have talked about him, like we did when we played against Belgium and we talked about Eden Hazard…it is normal in football you know. There is nothing different coming into this game. Tactical Slovakia will plan for us just because it's a tournament game. they will still plan like they are playing us in a friendly or a campaign game. Once the whistle has gone it is another game of football. So our preparation for Slovakia will be the same than as for every team we play against. We know where their strengths are, we know where their weaknesses are - just like everybody has got strengths and weaknesses. So there is no difference really."
