Schuerrle optimistic ahead of Ukraine opener
2016-06-11 11:31:00 from:SNTVSince qualifying for the European Championship, Germany have lost friendly games to France, England and most recently Slovakia in Augsburg, while beating Italy and Hungary. Nine goals conceded in five games leaves coach Joachim Loew with some questions over his defence.
SOUNDBITE (German) Andre Schuerrle, Germany:
"During the preparation time one of course works on (or towards) the start of the game, that the tournament will kick-off. I think we are top-prepared. We had good weeks so far. And we have also worked very good here in France. So, we are top-prepared and we are looking forward to the game on Sunday."
SOUNDBITE (German) Julian Draxler, Germany:
"I think that Jonas (Hector) and I have performed very good offensively in the test games. But one must also say that the two of us - and the same applies to our entire team - haven't played on top level. This will hopefully be different when it comes to the start of the tournament for us on Sunday. I hope we will be able to recall our top level then. The two of us as well as the entire team haven't recalled the optimum with regard to defensive organisation. But I am not worried too much. We will fix this until the start of the tournament, so that we will defend well and stand compactly in the defence as entire team."
