With just six days to go to the start of Euro 2016 in France, parts of Paris remain flooded - museums, parks and cemeteries have been closed and some roads are impassable, but French authorities say water levels are slowly falling.

The flood levels in France appear to finally be easing.

After a 30-year high water level , resulting in four people dying and 42 people injured as a result, Paris will hope to be back in shape come Friday's Euro 2016 opener.

However French authorities have warned it could take up to 10 days for the river to ebb back to normal after it rose to more than 4.5 metres (15 feet) above the Paris average.

Over 17,000 homes were still without electricity in the Paris region and central France.

Floods also forced parts of the metro system and major landmarks to close, while the Louvre and Orsay museums were shut while staff moved art to safety.

Despite the water level falling on Saturday morning, Paris remains under the second-highest alert, which warns of "significant impact".

One local resident, Nicolas Hainsohn, put on a brave face.

"It's an exceptional situation with water rising. But it's just water," he said.

"We are used to this, we've seen it once or twice. There are ways to get across."

In just six days time Euro 2016 kicks off with a Group A match between the host nation and Romania at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis, the northern suburbs of the French capital.
