EURO 2016: focus on Montpellier

2016-06-05 15:01:00 from:SNTV

With only a few days before the start of Euro 2016, Montpellier was getting ready to welcome Italy and Switzerland, as both teams will set their base camps in the southern France city.

Despite being one of the largest cities in France, Montpellier will not be hosting a game during the tournament.

However, the southern French city will play its part during the tournament as the chosen base camp for both Italy and Switzerland.

The Swiss team is scheduled to arrive in Montpellier on Monday (6th June).

Their camp will be a resort in Juvignac, a small town a few kilometres east of Montpellier.

The men led by Vladimir Petkovic will train at former 1998 World Cup venue Stade de la Mosson.

Italy will start their Euro preparation in France on Wednesday (8th June) and will stay at the Courtyard by Marriot Hotel in the city centre.

The Azzurri will train at Ligue 1 Montpellier team headquarters.

For the past two decades, Switzerland has failed to advance from any European Championship group in three attempts and routinely exits the World Cup in the first knockout round.

This year, a round-of-16 place is the least of the ambitions for a team well established in the top 20 of the FIFA rankings.

They open against Albania on 11th June, before facing other Group A rivals France and Romania.

Italy meanwhile open up against Belgium on 13th June.

Group E also includes Ireland and Sweden.
