EURO 2016: focus on Paris
2016-06-05 14:59:00 from:SNTVSix days before the start of Euro 2016, Parisians are looking forward to the tournament bringing a lighter atmosphere to the city.
Final preparations were taking place at Euro 2016 venues across Paris on Saturday (4th June) with the first game of the tournament less than a week away.
Up to 90,000 supporters will gather along the Champ de Mars under the Eiffel Tower to watch games on a big screen and internationally renowned DJ David Guetta will hold a concert there on the eve of the Euros.
It has been a difficult period for Parisians with security fears compounded by nationwide strikes over new labour laws and heavy rain which caused the Seine river to burst its banks on Friday.
Sitting under the Eiffel Tower with family, Elsa Farault said she hopes Euro 2016 will bring a warmer atmosphere to her city.
"I'm looking forward to the tournament and the atmosphere, everything," she said.
"I think it will be good in Paris, there will be foreigners and I like it."
France will open the tournament at the Stade de France against Romania on Friday (10th June) evening.
Didier Deschamps' side will be hoping to repeat the success of the 1984 French team which won the competition on home soil.
France were also victorious the last time they hosted a major tournament with Deschamps lifting the World Cup in the Stade de France back in 1998.
