Wales v England 'massive' - King

2016-06-03 11:03:00 from:SNTV

A month after winning the English Premier League title with Leicester City, Wales midfielder Andy King spoke to SNTV on Wednesday (1st June) about facing England and capping off his wonderful season with Euro 2016 glory.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Andy King, Wales and Leicester City midfielder (Q: What do you make of the fact Wales have to play England?)
"Yeah, massive. I think from the time the draw was made, that was the game which everyone was looking forward to and sort of the game which everyone wants to play in. But, you know, we're professional - we've got a friendly game against Sweden coming up and the first game (of Euro 2016) against Slovakia, like you've already mentioned, is obviously massive, and then when it comes onto England, obviously you know nothing really needs to be said about that. The players are going to be so up for that game and wanting to win, but it's just three points like any other game, and we need to make sure that that stays the same."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Andy King, Wales and Leicester City midfielder (Q: Are you confident going into Euro 2016 after winning the English Premier League with Leicester?)
"To know that you've been playing in a team which has gone on to win the league, obviously, of course, it gives anyone confidence. So yeah, I'm high in confidence at the moment, but there are a lot of the boys in there (the squad) who've had brilliant seasons for their club, and country as well. So, if we can all sort of mould that confidence together and bring it to the group, then hopefully everyone can carry through and we can have a good tournament."

SOUNDBITE (English) Andy King, Wales and Leicester City midfielder (Q. How does it feel to be in this Wales team, taking part in its first ever European Championship and first international tournament since 1958?)
"Yeah, it's massive. We kind of got labelled as 'the golden generation' from maybe five, six, seven years ago, so it's alright saying that and having good players, but it was ultimately for us about trying to lead this country into a major tournament, and for us to have dealt with that pressure and to have finally achieved that now is a massive honour for us as players and we can't wait to go over and represent the country in a major finals."

(Q. A medal from this tournament would sit well with the Premier League medal, wouldn't it?)
"Yeah, it would look nice next to it, wouldn't it? It would obviously cap off a great year for me, but yeah, why not?"
