(on Jose Mourinho's appointment at club Manchester United):

"Yeah, it's exciting. One of the best managers in the world and obviously knows the Premier League really well. For myself and I'm sure for the other Manchester United players, it's exciting times. I'm looking forward to it."

SOUNDBITE (English) Wayne Rooney, England captain

(on leading England at Euro 2016):

"Obviously it's a proud moment for myself to captain a team into a tournament. It's a young squad, like what you said, but it's got a lot of quality in the squad. I always believe I was fortunate to benefit from it as a 16-year-old, getting put in and given a chance and taking my chance. A lot of players in this squad have been put into the league teams and took the chance and they deserve their place. So I think, I've said throughout the last two years. I've been really excited to play in this team and nothing's changed. I'm excited and I'm proud to lead the team into the tournament and I really believe we've got a good enough squad to do well."
