EURO 2016: focus on England

2016-05-24 12:06:00 from:SNTV

England may not be one of the favourites for Euro 2016 but their blend of youth and experience - as shown by their win in Berlin over world champions Germany in March - makes them a team to be respected in France.

Roy Hodgson will be hoping to erase memories of England's disastrous World Cup campaign in Brazil by leading the Three lions to glory at Euro 2016.

Since 2014's failure in Brazil Hodgson's squad has plenty of new faces, including Premier League champion Jamie Vardy who could partner Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane in an exciting forward partnership.

England cruised through their qualifying campaign - winning all ten of their games.

The three lions have been drawn in Group B alongside Russia, Slovakia and rivals Wales.

Number one keeper Joe Hart is confident England can progress from the group.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Joe Hart, England goalkeeper:

"It's obviously a difficult draw but any championship is. But we feel confident with what we can do. I think the format's changed a lot this year as well and the top three can qualify out of four so we feel like we're one of the stronger teams of the group and we can progress."

Hodgson has named an exciting young squad, complemented by more experienced heads such as Captain Wayne Rooney who will lead his country once again.

As ever England will be hoping to avoid the dreaded Penalty shootout, having lost on penalties at Euro 1996, 2004 and 2012.

The nation will be hoping Roy's boy's do them proud.
