Euro 2016: Focus on Northern Ireland

2016-05-21 14:05:00 from:SNTV

Northern Ireland will be one of the outsiders at Euro 2016 but they hope their team spirit will give them a chance of getting out of their group in France.

Northern Ireland will enter the Euros this summer on a fine run of form, with three wins and the same number of draws in their last six fixtures.

But Northern Ireland have a tough looking group and will be at the European Championships for the first time in their history.

Awaiting them in Group C - Ukraine, Poland and Germany.

They open against the Poles and their superstar striker Robert Lewandowski.

The Northern Irish have a decent record against Poland having won three and drawn one of their six meetings in competitive games.

Fleetwood's Conor Mclaughlin played 9 of 10 qualifiers and he sees the opening two games as crucial if they're to make it out the group.

"I think the first two games are going to be massive for us if we're to get far in the tournament. Poland, Ukraine are going to be really tough games, but we've got to be taking some points from those two games to give ourselves a chance. Especially considering Germany is going to be the third game which is going to be the toughest of them all really."

The province of 1.8 million people that produced George Best has no star names in this squad.

But just making a first major tournament since the 1986 World Cup finals is a major achievement in itself.

And don't bet against this side though, they lost just once in a memorable qualifying campaign.
