Saint Etienne's Stade Geoffroy-Guichard will be hoping to live up to its nickname of 'the cauldron' during Euro 2016

The ground will host four matches during the tournament, with Portugal vs. Iceland being the first of which.

Disgraced former UEFA president Michel Platini has a strong association with Saint Etienne and was pivotal in its selection as a host city, according to the Mayor Gael Perdriau

SOUNDBITE (French) Gael Perdriau - Mayor of Saint-Etienne:

"It's true that Saint-Etienne has been used in the past to welcome important events: the Euro 1984, the World Cup in 1998, the Confederations Cup in 2003, the Rugby World Cup in 2007. And yes, we were not in the first short list of the stadiums chosen (for the event), I'd say the feelings have helped a lot as Michel Platini - who remained a citizen of Saint-Etienne since he played on this pitch - made it possible for Saint-Etienne to welcome this great event. I thank him a lot for that and we will certainly miss him during this party time."

The stadium has been specially modified for the tournament which kicks off next month.
