Euro 2016: focus on Hungary
2016-05-13 14:39:00 from:SNTVHungary are hopeful of getting out of Group F at Euro 2016 after qualifying for their first major tournament for 30 years.
Ferenc Puskas and the Golden Team of the 1950s may be a distant memory, but Hungary are back in a major tournament and the draw has been kind to them as they seek to reach the knockout stages.
Hungary finished third in qualifying Group F behind Northern Ireland and Romania meaning they had to win a playoff match to reach the tournament.
Bernd Storck's men beat Norway 3-1 on aggregate to reach their first major tournament since the 1986 World Cup.
Former Premier League stars Zoltan Gera and Gabor Kiraly are now back playing in their home country but provide plenty of experience.
In defence, Videoton's Roland Juhasz has now passed 90 caps and the former Anderlecht centre back believes their rivals would be foolish to underestimate them...
SOUNDBITE: (Hungarian) Roland Juhasz, Hungary defender:
"Considering how Denmark and Greece won the European Championship, I would say there is a chance for us too, but first we have to achieve smaller results. By that I mean qualification from the group and after that a lot depends on luck as well. Just because we managed to qualify for France, we do not want to start our games with our hands already up in celebration. We want to make the maximum out of this situation. If we do well in the group or even qualify, that would be good. But anything else would not be beyond our capabilities."
Former PSV and Dynamo Moscow winger Balazs Dzsudzsak will captain the side and his creativity will be vital as Hungary seek to qualify from Group F which looks, on paper, to be one of the weaker pools.
Hungary open their campaign against Austria in Bordeaux on 14th June before meeting Iceland in Marseille four days later. Their final group match is against Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal in Lyon on 22nd June.
