The Stade Velodrome in Marseille is one of the oldest venues to play host to the 2016 European Championships in France.
The original structure was built in 1937 as the name indicates it once housed a cycling track, however the track was removed in 1985 when the stadium underwent its first rennovation.
The Stade Velodrome was a host venue at both the 1938 and 1998 World Cups.
While 2016 will be the third time it hosts the European Championships following 1960 and 1984.
The stadium has been revamped yet again for the upcoming tournament with the addition of roof, as explained by general manager Martin d'Angelieu.
SOUNDBITE (French) Martin d'Argenlieu, stadium's general manager:
"The Velodrome is an old stadium as it is 90 years old. It has undergone several transformations. An important rennovation in 1995 prior the 1998 football World Cup and another one in 2013-2014 that has led to its current look and which took into account the technical specifications for the Euro 2016. These specifications require that all spectators are sheltered, which led to a roof that molds the stadium."
The now 67,000 capacity stadium will begin its host duties on the 11th June when England face Russia.
In addition to staging a further three group games including hosts France against Albania, the Stade Velodrome's duties will be sure to end in style when it will welcome two semi-finalists.
