Euro 2016: Focus on Nice

2016-05-13 14:27:00 from:SNTV

Not only does it bear the same name sponsor as the world famous Allianz Arena in Munich, but the Allianz Riviera in Nice, bears a striking resemblance to Bayern's ground.

The venue will be one of the showpiece stadiums to play host to the 2016 European Championship in France, due to start in a months time.

The 35,000 seater stadium may not be the biggest, but it's certainly one of the most unique.

The Allianz Riviera general manager, Sylvia Colloc explains why

SOUNDBITE (French) Sylvia Colloc, Allianz Riviera general manager:

"This stadium is a point of reference in terms of sustainable development, we have saved 3,000 tons of CO2 thanks to a mega-structure made of wood. We are also self-sufficient for the watering of the playing field thanks to the recovery of rainwater which is kept in reservoirs near the car parks. We also have 4,000 solar panels on the rooftop of the Allianz Riviera. And we control the lighting levels by areas and by time slots thanks to a centralised technical management system."

The Allianz Riviera will host its first match of Euro 2016 on the 12th June when Poland meet Northern Ireland in the group stage.

In addition to hosting a further two group stage games, its host duties will climax on the 27th June when it serves as a venue for the round of 16.

The sustainable Allianz Riviera is sure to impress fans and event organisers will be expecting a full house come Euro 2016.
