Bell: "Today was a democratic decision"
2016-05-04 11:14:00 from:SNTVKosovo was given UEFA membership on Tuesday (3rd May) and could now be fast-tracked into FIFA and the 2018 World Cup qualifying program.
SOUNDBITE (English) Alasdair Bell, UEFA legal affairs director
"There might be a appeal before CAS but, from a legal point of view, this is not something that UEFA fears. Because what we had today was a democratic decision of our membership on a sports question. The first question was if Kosovo was eligible to become a member. In our view, the answer to that is yes. And the second question was whether our members wanted Kosovo to become a member of UEFA. And today they voted that they did. I can't legislate for what happens in the future in terms of legal cases but it is not something that concerns me from a legal point of view."
SOUNDBITE (English) Theodore Theodoridis, Acting UEFA General Secretary
"The problem and why we have to wait until the 18th (May) is the FIFA congress in Mexico. Half of our executive committee will be in Mexico and the other half will be in Europe so it is very complicated to do anything between this period. So we will consider the meeting on the 18th either the possibility of Mr Platini to come back or the possibility of the executive committee to take the next steps."
