PLATINI APPEAL: Blatter to be witness

2016-04-30 11:34:00 from:SNTV

Former UEFA president Michel Platini started his appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne against his six-year FIFA ban on Friday (29th April) with ex-FIFA president Sepp Blatter giving evidence.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Mathieu Reeb, CAS Secretary General (explaining the proceedings):

"So today we have started on time with the hearing of Michel Platini and FIFA. Today is the final day for examination of witnesses and experts. We hope to finish today at around 4.30 pm - 5.00 pm, with the final pleadings of the lawyers. We don't know exactly now when the final decision will be rendered. Hopefully, it could be early next week or a little bit later, depending on what the parties today will tell us, so it depends also on their own calendar. The CAS tribunal itself will adapt to the needs of the parties."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Mathieu Reeb, CAS Secretary General (confirming Sepp Blatter is a witness):

"Mr Blatter has been called as a witness today and he should come at around 10.30 - 11.00 at the latest. So he has been called to give his own opinion about this case"

SOUNDBITE: (English) Mathieu Reeb, CAS Secretary General (on the future of the case):

"Depending of the decision rendered by CAS, there will be a further appeal to the Swiss Federal Tribunal, which is the last stage in this procedure. And the Federal Tribunal may only review CAS awards for procedural reasons, procedural grounds, procedural constitution of the panel, right to be heard of the parties. The Federal tribunal will not review the case on the merits."
