2016-03-30 10:55:00 from:SNTV

World Champions Germany defeated Italy 4-1 in an international friendly on Tuesday (29th March).

Fresh from their shock 3-2 defeat to England in Berlin on Saturday, Germany were keen to make amends when they took on Italy.

They were boosted by the return of Mario Goetze to international action.

But it was Tony Kroos who opened the scoring, as Germany went in search of a first win over Italy in more than 20 years.

Goetze, who had only played 53 minutes for Bayern Munich since suffering a groin injury against Ireland in October, showed

Germany what they'd been missing, as he headed their second just before the break.

He was was also involved in the third before the hour-mark, setting Julian Draxler free to cross for Jonas Hector's first international goal.

Mesut Ozil made it 4-0 in the 75th with a penalty conceded by Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon.

Substitute Stephan El Shaarawy scored Italy's consolation in the 83rd, but it was far too little and far too late.

As Germany were already celebrating their first win over Italy since a 2-0 victory in 1995.
