Hodgson urges England to remain humble

2016-03-28 10:04:00 from:SNTV

England manager Roy Hodgson said his team need to "remain humble" after they came from 2-0 down to beat Germany 3-2 in Berlin on Saturday (26th March)

SOUNDBITE: (English) Roy Hodgson, England manager

"I think it's important for us to remain humble in these moments, we've got an awful long way to go before we can claim to be like the Germans, with all they've achieved over the last few years. But it was a good performance and I think that you've got to take not only pride, but encouragement from good performances, you shouldn't play them down. I thought we were very unlucky to be a goal down at half-time especially seeing as Jack (Butland) was injured and probably would have saved the shot I'm sure, had he taken advantage of the injury a bit sooner and gone down and received treatment. And then of course to concede a second goal at a time when we weren't playing badly at all and missed a few chances, it was good to see the players play their way back into the game. It was a performance, I suppose when you come from 2-0 (down), it shows character, but the thing that pleased me most is also that we showed a lot of quality in terms of our passing play and our movement and we ended up scoring three goals, but we scored three goals from an awful lot of goal chances. It wasn't as if we took every chance that came our way."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Roy Hodgson, England manager (Q: Is there a feelgood factor and a fearlessness about the Tottenham and Leicester players coming in, obviously they were the guys on the scoresheet?)

"Yes. I mean fearlessness is a good word, it's a word that we bandy about quite a lot when we're talking with the team, you know we're always encouraging them to show positivity, to be able to show that composure and be comfortable on the ball, don't panic every time someone comes to pressurise you and play it off first time. Be prepared to hold onto things, be prepared to risk occasionally the more difficult passes and I think they did that very well tonight."
