Cahill honoured by England captaincy

2016-03-26 11:56:00 from:SNTV

England vice-captain Gary Cahill spoke on Friday (25th March) ahead of the team's friendly with Germany in Berlin on Saturday (26th March).

SOUNDBITE: (English) Gary Cahill, England captain (on captaining England):
"Yeah, thank you. Obviously it's a great honour for me again the second time I'm going to be captaining my country which is obviously again, a dream come true for me. To play for your country is enough, but to be captain is a very special moment so one that I'm looking forward to tomorrow and if the result was similar, if we got a victory tomorrow it would make it even sweeter so I hope it goes well."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Gary Cahill, England captain (on the use of friendly matches):
"Again, possibly but you see over these games you get opportunities to use different players, the amount of subs is different. So there is that element as well but when we played Spain, we played away from home, it was a very tough game. I thought the France game we performed very well, albeit the circumstances in that moment in time. But the performance of us and the way that we addressed the game was positive and there were a lot of good things to take from that so ... Again, repeating myself but we've got two more games, like you said I agree with you, at the end of these four games it gives us a chance to see where we are. We know as players coming up against top players where we are, what level we're looking at and this is the level that's going to be involved in the tournament."
