Belgium must show \'no fear\' to terrorists - Wilmots

2016-03-25 10:38:00 from:SNTV

Belgium head coach Marc Wilmots addressed the media on Wednesday (23rd March) a day after attacks in Brussels on Tuesday (22th March).

SOUNDBITE (French) Marc Wilmots, Belgium head coach:

"I wanted to play at home because I think the fans and the Belgium people deserve this. I am against fear. We must stand up and continue to live and I think the people also expect a reaction. If we could decide we would at home, but we have powers above us who take decision and we are here to respect them. It is easy to criticise but difficult to take decisions so from this point we had the possibility to play in Portugal. Analysing things and moving forward, I will have more details about the trip as they are almost sorted out. The press can join us by the way. Everybody in one plane to go and play a friendly in Portugal because I think that is what the players want and I asked them and they wanted to go. Everyone wants to go (and play)."

SOUNDBITE (French) Marc Wilmots, Belgium head coach:

Regarding the events, you have seen that the match was cancelled. If it depended on me I would have played but the (Belgian) football association has taken the decision that I respect of course. So straightaway we opted for plan B which is the Portuguese invitation to go and play on Tuesday in Leire.
