Bale: "No stars in our team"

2016-07-05 01:10:00 from:SNTV

Gareth Bale insisted on Monday (4th July) that Wales' Euro 2016 semi-final against Portugal was about far more than just him against his Real Madrid team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo

SOUNDBITE: (English) Gareth Bale, Wales

(on facing Real Madrid team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo):

"It's not about two players. We know that, everybody knows that. It's about two nations in a semi-final, eleven men against eleven men. It's going be a very difficult game, we know that, they're in the semi-final for a reason, they've played well enough. We are just going to try to enjoy the occasion again like we always have and we'll carry on on the same way."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Gareth Bale, Wales

(on Ronaldo):

"Of course, he's a fantastic player and everybody knows what he can do but we've always spoken about what we do, what we do ourselves as a team and we don't worry about the opposition."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Gareth Bale, Wales:

"We all believed from the start, I think, as we said many times before we just don't come here to make up the numbers, we've said that and we come here to do a job, to do business. And yes ultimately we want to win the tournament. We know we're a step closer again, but the thing first as I keep saying time and time again, we can't think past the semi-final now. We have to concentrate everything on that and hopefully we can get the job done and then we can look forward to the final."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Gareth Bale, Wales:

"The team is the star for us. There is no star in our team, we're all together, we all work as one. We all run for each other, we all tackle for each other, fight for each other. We're just a very close team. We all get along like brothers, we all joke and laugh and mess around as I'm sure you've seen on social media and everything and we're here having fun, we're here enjoying the occasion."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Gareth Bale, Wales

(on suspended pair Aaron Ramsey and Ben Davies):

"Yes it's horrible and it's one where you...the rules are difficult to take sometimes. You kind of wish, coming to this part of the tournament, yellow cards and stuff would get wiped and give everyone the opportunity to play on this level. It's very ...you feel for them of course and, of course, they going to be hurt deep down but they're not showing it."
