England returned to their team base in Chantilly on Tuesday as the squad prepared to return home after being knocked out of Euro 2016 by Iceland.

Iceland managed to pull off one the biggest shocks in European Championship history, beating England 2-1 in Nice yesterday to advance to the quarter-finals of the competition.

England slumped to their most embarrassing loss in a generation after taking the lead in the fourth minute when Wayne Rooney scored from the penalty spot.

Ragnar Sigurdsson equalised just 34 seconds later and Kolbeinn Sigthorsson gave Iceland the lead by the 18th minute, and their teammates defended superbly to earn the biggest win in their history.

Roy Hodgson, resigned after the abject embarrassment of losing to a nation ranked 34th in the world and with a population of just 330,000.

The English haven't won a match in the knockout stage of a major tournament since 2006.
