Italy put an end to Spain's European Championship reign of eight years.

Prior to the tournament, Italy were written off but they have since impressed with a 2-0 victory over Belgium as they topped their group.

Now, the azzurri have eliminated Spain with a comprehensive 2-0 win, that could and probably should have been more, had David De Gea not stopped Italy on numerous occasions.

In Rome, fans gathered to watch the game and celebrated as Giorgio Chiellini poked the ball home in the 33rd minute to give Italy the lead.

The reaction in Madrid on the other hand was considerably different.

Southampton striker, Graziano Pelle scored the second in stoppage time to ensure Italy's progress much to the delight of Italian fans.

Spanish fans on the other hand showed all their disappointment, as their team face a trip back home.

Italy will now get ready to face world champions Germany in the quater-finals on Saturday in Bordeaux.
