Croatia coach Ante Cacic reflected on Sunday (26th June) on his side's Euro 2016 exit the day after a 1-0 extra-time defeat to Portugal.

SOUNDBITE: (Croatian) Ante Cacic, Croatia coach:

"Its a different game from the group stage because it's a knockout game. It's important but we made a mistake. One goal was decisive, but Croatia performed well and had the game under control, and we were heading for penalties but we made a mistake. Ronaldo and Portugal punished us, that's the story of the match."

SOUNDBITE: (Croatian) Ante Cacic, Croatia coach:

"After a defeat like this, I did not sleep well but today is a new day. In a month and half we begin qualification for the World Cup. We will be sad for a couple of days because of the defeat but we did our best so it's not a real defeat. Croatia gave 100% in the game so it's not a real defeat. We head back home without losing any game in 90 minutes, and the other side, Portugal didn't win any game in 90 minutes and they still go through to the quarter-finals, that's the sport."

SOUNDBITE: (Croatian) Ante Cacic, Croatia coach:

"We had five or six real good opportunities to score a goal, unfortunately we didn't. I'm very proud of the team, but not only for yesterday, for the whole tournament. They played well, they dominated. The Croatia team is a winning team. They have a winning spirit because they united the country in the stadium and in Croatia."
