Switzerland insist: 'We know everything about Poland'

Switzerland midfielder Fabian Frei said "when you talk about Poland the first thing that comes to your mind is Lewandowski", but both Frei and teammate Michael Lang insisted on Thursday (23rd June) they were fully informed of the Polish threat, with Lang joking "we know all the players and we also know also about your tactics".

The Swiss team carried on preparation on Thursday (23rd June) at their base camp, the day before travelling to Saint-Etienne for their first appearance in the knockout stages of a European Championship.

Vladimir Petkovic's Swiss team will open up the Last 16 round against Group C runners-up Poland.

A 0-0 draw with hosts France last Sunday (19th June) saw the Swiss secure their spot in the last 16.

They picked up a 1-1 draw with Romania and a 1-0 victory over Albania in their other two group matches.

And while Robert Lewandowski poses a serious threat to the Swiss backline, defender Michael Lang knows he won't be their only concern.

"We know everything about each player, not just about Lewandowski. So be sure that we are well prepared and we know all the players and we also know also about your tactics (laughs)."

Switzerland have played in three previous European Championships, but failed to make it out of the group stage in 1996 and again in 2004.

But perhaps the most painful elimination came in 2008, when they co-hosted the tournament with Austria.

Midfielder Fabian Frei insists the side are prepared and will leave nothing to chance.

"Ask me after the game if it was an advantage or not. I'm not sure, because they have four or five days break also to get fresh again. I don't think it's a big advantage for us. If it's an advantage it's OK for me, no problem. I think when we go to extra time and penalty shoot-out, maybe it could be an advantage for us. And second, it's how my friend told you, we will be very well prepared for this game, we know everything (laughs)."

Switzerland will play Poland at the Stade Geoffroy Guichard in Saint-Etienne on Saturday (25th June).
