Expectations have been to high'- Koller

Austria coach Marcel Koller said "the expectations have been too high" on his squad after they lost 2-1 to Iceland on Wednesday (22nd June), a result which saw them eliminated from Euro 2016 having finished bottom of Group F.

"That's what I already said, it's important to take chances, if you don't do so it is difficult to win a game and I knew it would be very important to analyse the opposition but if you don't know the opposition too well or you only see them for one game it is difficult to expect something and I think that the expectations have been too high. I am trying always to approach that precisely our positions and I watch many games, that's how I can judge who is opposition you can win against, where you have to pay attention against, where are their qualities and that's not only case with Austria but with the opposition in the group."

"This is a good experience for the players to finally say that we have played at such a European tournament. There are no bad sides at this tournament, you have to be focussed at all times and that's what we did not succeed at all times. Personally I think this is a great loss, I think it has been an experience to me that I have gained, together with this side, that we have seen and lived together."
