Marseille erupted into violence on Tuesday (21st June) as fans clashed with police ahead of Poland's Euro 2016 group game against Ukraine.

Marseille's old port has once again been the scene of clashes between police and football fans as Poland prepared to take on Ukraine in their final match of Group C.

Uniformed and plain-clothes police officers swooped on trouble makers, leading to the arrest of at least two fans and the confiscation of alcohol.

Police equipped with riot shields were taking no chances, after serious violence between rival England and Russia fans in Marseille had marred the start of Euro 2016, with several suffering serious injuries.

This tournament has been marred by voilence and clashes with police. Scenes no football fan wants to see.

Earlier in the day despite a heavy police presence, the atmosphere in Marseille was largely friendly and good humoured ahead of the match.

Poland need just one point at the Stade Velodrome to qualify for the last 16, while Ukraine were first team to be eliminated from the tournament following two defeats.
