Reaction after France and Switzerland progress

2016-06-21 01:12:00 from:SNTV

Vladimir Petkovic and Didier Deschamps give their thoughts after France and Switzerland draw 0-0 in Group A of Euro 2016 on Sunday (19th June).

SOUNDBITE: (French) Didier Deschamps, France manager

"We always have room for improvement. It's important, even at this moment in time when this result has suited us to secure the top spot. But we had four (scoring) chances and had we been a bit more clinical, we would have been able to score. Switzerland were better on the ball at times, if you will, without really threatening too much. As you know, in terms of our plans, it was very very important to finish first in the group. We know that our next match will be next Sunday and we're going to see on Tuesday, or perhaps Wednesday, who we'll be playing against. But it's very good indeed. Clearly there are things that need to be improved upon but like a lot of teams, and I've seen almost every match in the competition apart from two or three, and apart from two or three which have really been dominant, all sides have had tricky games."

SOUNDBITE: (Italian) Vladimir Petkovic, Switzerland coach

"Firstly thank you. Yes, it's a significant achievement. But the first step forwards that we had to take was exactly this, our minimum requirement, objective (was to get through the group). We had to do so and showed good play and were able to hold firm. We now know that we will play on Saturday and that we will play at three o'clock and we'll play at Saint-Etienne. So we're through, we now need to rest up, recover our energy levels and now other sides need to run and deserve to play against us. I think that all three of our potential opponents (Poland, Germany, Northern Ireland) are very good. We have already played against Poland and they are an excellent side. Nothing more needs to be said about Germany and Northern Ireland are a possible suprise too. They're pretty solid. But we're relaxed and we'll come up against a side in a knockout game. We'll be playing to try and win the game and not just do ourselves credit."
