Evans: 'N. Ireland need a result against Ukraine'

2016-06-16 06:14:00 from:SNTV

Northern Ireland's Michael McGovern and Jonny Evans commented on Tuesday (14th June) about the death of Northern Ireland fan Darren Rodgers and their next Euro 2016 Group C game against Ukraine in Lyon.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Jonny Evans, Northern Ireland defender:

(Q: Do you think that a win against Ukraine is vital now?)

"We know we need to get a result. I think a win would give us a great belief going into the last game. It would be great for us as players, for everyone involved, the fans that we could go into the last game with something to play for. In Paris against Germany, it doesn't get any bigger than that."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Jonny Evans, Northern Ireland defender:

(Q: How do you feel about the death of Northern Ireland fan Darren Rodgers in Nice after your first game?)

"It was one of the first things we heard the next day when we woke up after the game. Straight away you think of the family. We were talking about it on the way back from the game that regardless of the results, for us as players it was probably one of the greatest experiences we've had as footballers. The fans played a huge part in that and then to wake up the next day to learn that one of them has passed away is obviously very sad news."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Michael McGovern, Northern Ireland goalkeeper:

(Q: What do you know about Ukraine?)

"Obviously we were travelling back from that game and we didn't get to see the whole game. We saw a bit of the game on video last night. It looks like they had chances in the game. They've got a good threat going forward on either wing. It will be a tough test for us but it's a good challenge for us. After a poor performance the other night we've got to get a result on Thursday."
