Two English soccer fans were convicted by a French court on Monday (13th June) of involvement in rioting and sentenced to two and three months in prison respectively.

The fallout from the violent scenes in Marseille on Saturday night continued with the imprisonment of two England fans.

"It's a joke. It's pathetic. What's the phrase for French justice? No, doesn't make sense, doesn't make sense. You see more justice in kangaroo court."

Chris Booth is father to Alex Booth, who at just 20, will serve two months in a French prison.

Booth turned 20 in his French prison cell while waiting for his court appearance. Another England fan - Ian Hepworth - was sentenced to three months in jail.

"I was with him all the time, yes. He threw nothing. He threw absolutely nothing. No bottles, not plastic or any other kind of bottle. I was with him all the time and I got other witness who were with me when this alleged throwing took place."

However French lawyers declared there was no other decision that could be made.

"In spite of everything, he had to get a conviction because this behaviour is not acceptable and his (behaviour), in the eyes of the law is condemnable - hence the sentence. That's the problem. Other guilty people haven't been caught. The most dangerous people, to me, have not been judged in court today."

Alex Booth clasped his head in his hands and looked imploringly at his father as a judge sentenced him to two months and banned him from entering France for two years.
