Albania keen to show ambition at debut tournament

2016-06-11 11:42:00 from:SNTV

Albania will make their bow on the continental stage for the first time.on Saturday after reaching a major international tournament. They face Switzerland at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis in Lens in a game that could also see two brothers in opposition, with Switzerland's Granit Xhaka possibly facing elder brother Taulant Xhaka.

SOUNDBITE: (Italian) Gianni de Biasi, Albania head coach:

"Pressure? From my perspective there isn't any. We do have large expectations, yes. I hope that the players are once again able to show the best of themselves in this competition. It doesn't only come down to us, we know how strong the other sides are, but you start at nil-nil in every game and in order to change a match you have to do so with the right tension and prepare it well before starting the match."

SOUNDBITE: (Italian) Gianni de Biasi, Albania head coach:

"I don't think tomorrow night's match is fundamental or decisive. Clearly it is the first match, so it would be great to get off on the right foot for me and the lads to have confidence in what we've tried to prepare in the last three weeks of our training camp. Tomorrow's match won't change anything dramatically. It's important for me to try to read the signals I'm getting from my players and try to deal with them in the right fashion. I believe that's the most important thing with regards to tomorrow night's game."

SOUNDBITE: (French) Lorik Cana, Albania captain: (on the Xhaka brothers, Taulant and Granit)

"It's quite unique. I've known the family for more than 20 years. I've spent a lot of time with their family, I've got a lot of respect for them. I was really behind bringing both of the Xhaka brothers in a few years ago, but it didn't happen because of a passport procedure. I think we're quite lucky to have one of the brothers, Taulant, who has really performed well since he has been in the side. Clearly we would have liked to have Granit as well, but it wasn't in our hands. That said, we still have a very good side. It will be very unique, the two brothers playing against each other and they are both competitors. Taulant is a great competitor and I think when he goes out he won't give any gifts to the other players, particularly his brother."
