Joachim Loew discusses Tah call up

2016-06-09 16:09:00 from:SNTV

Germany coach Joachim Loew and German soccer federation president Reinhard Grindel on Wednesday (8th June) held their first Euro 2016 news conference at the team base camp in Evian-les-Bains.

SOUNDBITE (German) Joachim Loew, Germany coach:

"Yesterday was of course a bit "clouded" due to the serious injury to Toni Ruediger. This morning at the hospital it was confirmed what our medical staff had already assumed yesterday that he tore a cruciate ligament. And when such a serious injury happens on the first day, it is of course extremely unfortunate. And I am in particular very sorry for Toni."

SOUNDBITE (German) Joachim Loew, Germany coach:

"Yesterday evening we decided to call up Jonathan Tah. My aim was to very intentionally create a 1:1 situation and to therefore call a centre-back who is able to play in this position."

SOUNDBITE (German) Joachim Loew, Germany coach:

"I have always said that we won't complain now. We will try to make the best out of our existing opportunities (or possibilities) now. We have managed to find a solution to replace Ruediger. We have a very, very good team. We have many, many good players. I absolutely trust the players who are here and we must cope with a situation like this."

SOUNDBITE (German) Joachim Loew, Germany coach:

"The conditions here are brilliant. The training pitch is very good, it is in a good condition. And the same applies to the hotel. I think all of us are feeling very good here. And in the next days we will certainly prepare for the game against Ukraine and we will provide the team with the required information (about the team of Ukraine). But more important for us is what does it mean for our own game (or way to play) and what must we do? And I think if we succeed to bring in our strengths on Sunday, we will certainly play a good game and we will have a good start to this tournament."
