Authorities in France say the level of security in the capital has been further increased in order to protect potential soft targets during Euro 2016.

It's one of the most iconic pictures the world over, the Eiffel Tower standing tall over the French capital of Paris.

The symbol of a city that has suffered terrifying attacks in recent months and that is doing everything in its power to ensure it doesn't happen again.

Euro 2016 will see a notable increase in security, particularly in Paris.

An extra contingent of 1,200 soldier will be deployed in public spaces, on transportation and tourist landmarks across Paris.

In addition a 13,000-strong security force will be patrolling stadiums and fan zones.

The Paris fan zone in particular will welcome crowds as of Thursday and can accommodate up to 2,000 supporters ahead the first game on Friday evening.

A state of emergency is still in force in France following the extremist attacks and is likely to remain in place throughout the tournament.
